We strive to produce the lowest-emission, lowest-cost and most ethical natural gas in the world

We’re also North America’s 5th largest producer. Scale is a key component in driving down costs, leveraging transport and marketing opportunities, and remaining relevant in the current market environment. At 2.5 BCF/Day production, Tourmaline generates 14% of Canada’s total natural gas receipts in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.

Where we Operate

From our operations in British Columbia and Alberta, we are proud to send our natural gas across Canada, into the United States, and to international markets, providing reliable and affordable energy utilized by millions of people around the world.

We are committed to responsibly developing Canadian natural gas, fostering a strong and passionate work force, continuously improving our environmental performance, building mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous peoples and communities, and fostering strong relationships in the communities we call home.

We are dedicated to responsibly developing Canada’s top-tier natural gas assets in Alberta and British Columbia. It's part of our journey to become the domestic and international energy resource supplier of choice.

Tourmaline’s deep inventory delivers an extremely reliable supply of natural gas. Our prime natural gas resource plays, the Alberta Deep Basin and the British Columbia Montney, are very early in producing life. The Montney, for example, has only produced 22 TCF of an estimated 645 TCF of ultimate recoverable gas reserve. Tourmaline's strategic growth plan in the Montney creates stability while offering significant growth potential in the future. With 75 years of drilling inventory at current production levels, Tourmaline is a reliable trade partner for both local and international customers.

Natural gas demand continues to grow through 2045 and beyond

The world’s energy mix continues to transform, systematically improving efficiency, economics, and emission profile to provide energy for our planet’s growing population.

Natural gas is the transformational energy source the world needs now and in the future. As a global supplier of responsibly-produced Canadian natural gas, Tourmaline is well-positioned to further contribute to increasing energy security, reliability, and affordability – while enabling emissions reductions in markets around the world.

Why the world needs more Canadian natural gas

Reducing Global Emissions

Making Canadian natural gas available to the world can have a significant impact on the environment, especially if used to reduce reliance on fuels with a larger environmental and social footprint. Each BCF/Day of Canadian natural gas will reduce carbon emissions by approximately 15 MT/Year if utilized to replace coal.

Setting a New GHG Standard

With a GHG intensity lower than any LNG facility in operation today, Canada’s first major LNG project will showcase global environmental excellence.

This world-class LNG facility will offer many advantages, including:

  • Requiring less liquefaction energy due to the colder temperature in Canada.
  • Being 10 shipping days closer to Asia than facilities on the US Gulf Coast.
  • Generating economic opportunities for local and Indigenous communities.
  • Displacing less ethical natural gas with the most responsibly produced natural gas in the world.

Driving Strong LNG Exports

Canadian natural gas is an important building block for Canada’s economy and an enabler of global emission reductions. As we await Canada’s first large-scale LNG facility, we have not sat idle.

In January 2023, Tourmaline expanded its sophisticated market diversification strategy overseas through a unique cross border agreement with a US counterparty to ensure our low-emission natural gas is now reaching more countries in need.

As the first Canadian natural gas producer to supply LNG to Asian and European markets, Tourmaline is poised to lead the way.

Building the Economy

Canada’s first large-scale LNG project, with export capacity potential of 28 MTPA, is estimated to create up to 20,000 jobs and add $9-12 billion to the Canadian economy. Not only is there an economic win from the construction of the pipeline and liquefaction facility, but also from the resource development required to continually provide natural gas supply to sustain LNG volumes for the lifespan of the project. This will require billions in capital investment annually back in the Canadian basins every year for decades to come, creating a massive repeatable economic win in terms of jobs, revenues, and taxes for the entire country.

It’s a great time for Canada to enter the global LNG business.

Supporting Indigenous Communities

We’re committed to fostering mutually beneficial outcomes through collaboration and respect with Indigenous groups while focusing on common goals and interests. We have taken steps in furthering those relationships through agreement-making with several nations within our operational footprint, which allows for commitments to Indigenous groups including capacity building, community investment, cultural restoration, and land restoration.

Since 2017, Tourmaline has spent over $357 million on goods and services provided by Indigenous-owned and affiliated businesses. We continue to find and pursue new opportunities in partnership with Indigenous groups.

Tourmaline is the ideal producer for the growing, global natural gas and LNG market

Tourmaline and our peers are producing the environmentally and socially responsible natural gas the world needs.
